Lead design engineer
Function
As Lead Design Engineer, you are responsible for the mechanical design of industrial process installations. You work independently from P&IDs, technical specifications and other engineering documents and develop these into a technically substantiated and practically executable design.
This role goes beyond conventional draughting. You think along about the feasibility, structure and optimisation of installations and work closely with project engineers, project managers, clients, suppliers and executing partners.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing piping and mechanical constructions.
- Translating P&IDs into integrated 3D models.
- Producing 2D construction drawings and technical documentation.
- Developing designs using Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Plant 3D.
- Structuring large 3D assemblies.
- Integrating point clouds and 3D scans into the design.
- Aligning technical designs with project teams and contractors.
- Developing design standards, parts libraries and efficient workflows.
Initially, the focus is on the hands-on development of designs. In time, you can grow into a coordinating role in which you guide junior draughtspersons and external designers.
Profile
We are looking for a design engineer or experienced mechanical designer with a strong interest in piping, process installations and industrial engineering.
Your profile is a match if you:

- Has a good knowledge of Autodesk Inventor, preferably with Tube & Pipe and Frame Generator.
- Has experience with Autodesk Plant 3D or a comparable software environment.
- Has insight into 3D assemblies, mechanical constructions and structural analysis.
- Has experience with point clouds, 3D scans or Autodesk ReCap.
- Communicates fluently in Dutch and English.
You work accurately, systematically and in an organised manner. In addition, you are happy to take responsibility, keep up to date with new techniques and share your knowledge with colleagues. Experience in water treatment, wastewater, energy or industrial process installations is an advantage.
