Building and Civil Engineering Procurement Officer
Function
- As a Buildings and Civil Engineering Buyer, you manage purchasing files from request to order for assigned construction and infrastructure projects in Mechelen.
- You translate project requirements into clear and complete requests for quotation for materials, subcontracting and services.
- You carefully compare quotations with specifications, bills of quantities, plans and budgets. You identify discrepancies and formulate concrete optimisations that contribute to efficient execution.
- You discuss your analyses with project managers and project engineers and align the commercial and technical approach with them.
- You conduct negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors in a professional and goal-oriented manner, with attention to price, quality, planning and delivery conditions.
- As a buyer, you maintain constructive relationships with existing partners and actively explore alternative suppliers and products where this benefits the projects.
- You monitor the procurement planning closely and look across the various projects for an efficient combination of purchases, so that resources, timing and expertise are deployed optimally.
Profile
- You have completed a construction-related qualification or possess an equivalent technical background, supplemented by approximately 3 to 5 years of experience in procurement, calculation, work preparation or a site-related role within the construction sector.
- You interpret technical documents such as plans, specifications and bills of quantities accurately. You work in a structured manner whilst keeping an eye on the budget, planning and practical feasibility.
- You communicate fluently and professionally in Dutch and French, both in writing and verbally. Knowledge of English is an additional asset.
- You are a confident negotiator: you ask the right questions, defend the project's interests and build partnerships that remain valuable in the long term.
- You are an engaged team player who actively shares information, follows up on agreements and reaches well-supported decisions with attention to detail. That combination of collaboration and accuracy is essential for translating procurement choices to the site in a timely and correct manner.
