Dispatcher

Function

As Dispatcher In Antwerp, you will be the central point of contact within the transport department and will ensure the smooth and accurate monitoring of daily container scheduling. You will work in an environment where speed, structure and communication come together, and where you will have a direct impact on the quality of service.

In this role, you’ll closely monitor shipments and liaise seamlessly with customers, drivers, terminals and internal departments. You’ll monitor the schedule, anticipate any deviations and ensure that transport records are updated correctly and in a timely manner. You’ll also actively contribute ideas for improvements and take the initiative when situations need to be resolved quickly.

Your main responsibilities will include, amongst other things:

• drawing up, monitoring and adjusting the transport schedule;
• maintaining contact with drivers, terminals and customers;
• act as a link between the customer and the driver;
• answering enquiries by email and telephone;
• resolving operational problems and finding workable solutions;
• updating and monitoring transport records;
• work closely with internal departments to ensure smooth operations;
• contributing ideas on how to make processes more efficient and taking the initiative proactively.

Profile

For this role, we are looking for an experienced planner with a strong background in container transport and an excellent knowledge of the Port of Antwerp. You work meticulously, remain calm under pressure and are able to prioritise when several tasks require your attention at the same time.

In addition, you will have the following qualifications and skills:

• at least 10 years’ experience in container planning or transport planning;
• in-depth knowledge of the Port of Antwerp and the associated logistics flows;
• a good knowledge of MS Office;
• Experience with Qargo is an advantage;
• fluency in Dutch and English;
• healthy, assertive and a strong communicator;
• a flexible approach and problem-solving mindset;
• working meticulously with an eye for detail;
• the ability to manage several tasks at once whilst maintaining a structured approach;
• a proactive attitude and a willingness to take the initiative.

Organisation

Our client has specialised in green coffee and cocoa processing and distribution. The company has become a leading warehouse player for both commodities.

They also have their own transport department. That department transports customers' goods from all segments, from fruit to coffee over chocolate to steel. This usually takes place within a radius of five hundred kilometres around the port of Antwerp. Eighty per cent of the work consists of container transport.
