Our client is looking for a Quantity Surveyor with a keen understanding of the construction industry – someone who doesn’t just work with figures, but also ensures they add up down to the smallest detail. From Houthalen you will be involved in challenging projects in the general construction sector, with a particular focus on public tenders and Year 5 projects. These are files relating to approximately €50,000 to €1.8 million, where your precision and understanding of construction techniques really make all the difference.

You will be taking on a role with a high level of responsibility and a good amount of practical experience. Experience in general construction is an advantage, but knowledge of finish or, above all, complete finish is even more important. Have you already factored in comprehensive cover? If so, that’s certainly worth considering. The rest of the skills can be learnt and honed internally. So we’re not looking for a school leaver, but rather someone with a hands-on mentality who contributes ideas, is present on site and understands how a construction project works in practice.

Your duties will include:

• Thoroughly reviewing and analysing tender documents and technical plans;
• Preparing accurate cost estimates and quotations for general construction projects;
• Estimating the costs of materials, labour and construction;
• Consult with project management and site management to develop well-considered and realistic pricing;
• Contributing ideas on implementation methods, optimisations and potential risks;
• Preparing files with attention to detail, planning and practical feasibility;
• Actively contributing to projects in the region around Houthalen, with a maximum travel distance of approximately Leuven/Westerlo.

You are someone who builds with insight, a broad perspective and a strong sense of reality. Someone who is not only good at maths, but also knows how a project really needs to be carried out, with a clear focus on complete finish and general construction.

Profile

For this role, we are looking for a Quantity Surveyor with experience in a construction context. They are looking for someone who has already gained sufficient practical experience to work independently and efficiently, and to take on projects with confidence.

The ideal candidate will have a strong grounding in construction engineering and will feel at home in an environment where precision, speed and practical solutions are key. Experience in general construction would be an advantage, but expertise in overall finishing is even more important here than experience in structural work. Anyone with a strong background in finishing or turnkey finishing therefore has a clear advantage. Experience with shell projects also remains highly relevant.

We would like to see the following included:

• Experience as a quantity surveyor in the construction industry, preferably in general construction, finishing works or comprehensive finishing;
• Strong technical knowledge of construction and an understanding of on-site implementation;
• Be able to work efficiently with plans, bills of quantities and tender documents;
• A hands-on approach and a proactive mindset;
• An eye for detail and the courage to proactively contribute ideas for feasible solutions;
• Willingness to be closely involved from the preparatory stage onwards;
• Good cooperation with project managers and site managers;
• Available for a full-time working week of 40 hours;
• Willing to on site in Houthalen to work, as working from home is not an option.
