Site Manager Rail
Function
- As site manager, you take on the day-to-day leadership of sites for rail infrastructure, with a focus on overhead lines, assembly works, foundations and supporting steel structures.
- The schedule becomes your workable overview: you align activities, materials, machinery and subcontractors so that the team can work safely and in accordance with agreements.
- You typically manage a team of 8 to 10 fitters and railway workers. Clear instructions, consistent follow-up and respectful communication ensure strong collaboration on site.
- You resolve technical challenges independently, including during night-time interventions. You assess the situation, make a well-founded decision and keep the relevant parties informed.
- Digital daily reports, material orders, work preparation and toolbox meetings form part of your responsibilities. This keeps the execution traceable and allows the project team to make timely adjustments.
- Safety is central to every decision. You monitor procedures, address people when necessary and create a working environment in which risks remain open for discussion.
- You work primarily directly on sites spread across Belgium and visit the office environment in Mechelen for consultation and coordination on average approximately once every two weeks.
Profile
- A technical or construction-related qualification at bachelor's or graduate level provides a solid foundation. Relevant experience in construction, electromechanics, assembly or rail infrastructure is also considered.
- You ideally bring 5 to 10 years of experience in a technical site environment, of which experience in coordinating activities or managing teams is a clear added value.
- Technical insight into mechanical structures, foundations, steelwork or electrical infrastructure helps you to identify connections quickly and set the right priorities.
- As a people manager, you combine clear boundaries with a fair and approachable style. This is important for building trust with experienced tradespeople while safeguarding quality and safety.
- You are willing to work nights and weekends on a regular basis. The schedule is generally known approximately four weeks in advance; a driving licence and willingness to travel to various sites are essential for this role.

- A company car, net expense allowance, meal vouchers and group and hospitalisation insurance support you both professionally and privately.
- Hours worked are paid on a one-to-one basis or converted into compensatory leave. Night and weekend work is therefore tracked transparently and compensated correctly.
- For weekend work, additional gross premiums of approximately €150 per Saturday and €200 per Sunday are provided.
- You receive compensatory days off according to the schedule, in addition to the usual leave periods such as the construction holiday and a collective closure around Christmas.
- A targeted training programme combines theory, guidance from an experienced site manager and on-site learning. Gradually, you take on responsibility for smaller assignments and subsequently for a full team.
- The work organisation is strongly site-oriented: you travel directly to the assigned projects and maintain contact with the office and project organisation in Mechelen through regular consultation moments.
