As Calculator at this general contractor in Aarschot You’ll play a key role in the early stages of diverse and technically challenging construction projects. You’ll translate plans, specifications and project information into accurate, realistic cost estimates, thereby supporting the financial launch of each project. You’ll be working for a company with a strong track record in timber-frame construction, cladding, traditional renovations and exclusive bespoke work, meaning no two days are ever the same.
In this role, you’ll combine analytical insight with an understanding of construction and a meticulous approach. You’ll look not only at the figures, but also at technical feasibility, potential risks and the best implementation methods. Thanks to your work, quotations are well-founded, projects are thoroughly prepared and decisions are made more quickly and effectively. You liaise smoothly with colleagues, suppliers and internal departments, and actively contribute ideas on how to optimise processes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out detailed cost estimates and cost price calculations based on plans, specifications and project data.
- Requesting, comparing and analysing quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Identifying technical and financial issues and formulating well-considered solutions.
- Preparing clear and comprehensive quotations tailored to each project.
- Coordinate with the sales, project management and work planning teams to prepare files accurately and efficiently.
- Contributing ideas on optimisations, alternatives and improvements to cost estimation and preparation processes.
- Working on a variety of projects, ranging from structural work and renovation to high-quality finishes and exclusive turnkey solutions.
Profile
For this role, we are looking for a quantity surveyor with 3 to 5 years’ experience and a keen interest in the construction sector. You don’t need to be an expert in everything, but you are someone who quickly gets to grips with technical documents, works meticulously and is keen to take on responsibility. You feel at home in an environment where quality, bespoke solutions and practical approaches are important.
Your profile:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or equivalent through relevant experience.
- Several years’ experience as a quantity surveyor, preferably in construction, renovation, timber construction, façade work or roofing.
- Strong technical and structural insight, with the ability to correctly assess plans, construction methods and structures.
- Experience with cost estimation software and a good command of digital tools and MS Office.
- Meticulous, analytical and strong with numbers, with an eye for detail and deadlines.
- Able to work independently, but also to collaborate effectively with colleagues and suppliers.
- A good communicator and customer-focused, with the maturity to offer clear and objective advice.
- Open to improving and streamlining processes.
- A good knowledge of Dutch; a basic knowledge of French would be an advantage.
- Ideally, you live in the Aarschot area or are happy to travel there.
Experience in a family-run SME environment and an affinity for unique, technically challenging projects are clear assets. Soft skills such as a sense of responsibility, solution-oriented thinking and the ability to consult with others are at least as important in this role as technical knowledge.
