Solutions engineer

Function

The Solutions Engineer/Applications Engineer Sales plays a multifaceted role. The role involves assessing customer enquiries, developing technical solutions, drawing up layouts and quotations, and supporting the entire order process for both new machines and retrofit projects.

The Solutions Engineer works closely with Sales, Engineering and Service, translating customer requirements into technically feasible and commercially attractive solutions. In the long term, this role offers the opportunity to progress towards a more commercial role.

A structured approach, technical insight and strong communication skills are essential for success. Experience with AutoCAD is indispensable. Knowledge of ERP and CRM systems is a significant advantage.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with others when analysing customer enquiries, specifications and technical documentation.
• Preparing technical layouts, cost estimates and quotations, and responding to requests for quotations (RFQs).
• Providing advice on technical solutions, project decisions and machine safety.
• Translating client requirements into product specifications, project specifications and technical layouts.
• Supporting Field Service Engineers during installation projects and checking installation kits.
• Collaborate with the Service and Engineering departments on retrofit projects and order requests.
• Coordinate with suppliers on technical specifications, prices and delivery times.
• Providing technical support for projects from the quotation stage through to completion.
• Making technical decisions based on complex issues.
• Contributing to the achievement of KPIs and the continuous improvement of processes.

Profile

We are looking for a technical professional with commercial acumen for this role, someone who is energised by customer-focused solutions and enjoys taking on responsibility.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Preferably several years’ relevant work experience in mechanical engineering, project engineering or a similar technical field.
• Extensive experience with AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of machine safety and CE directives.
• Experience within an internationally operating manufacturing organisation is an advantage.
