Civil Engineering and Buildings Estimator
Function
- As a Calculator civil engineering and buildings, you analyse tender dossiers from A to Z and translate technical, commercial and contractual information into a well-founded quotation.
- You examine specification requirements, plans and quantities, map out all required documents and assess the technical and organisational feasibility of each file.
- Based on the award criteria, you develop a well-considered strategy and a plan of approach. You discuss your proposals with management and ensure that the tender is strong in content and feasible.
- Together with project support, execution, procurement, suppliers and subcontractors, you compare prices, materials, execution methods and alternatives. Where necessary, you negotiate on conditions and look for optimisations that increase the chances of success.
- You take charge of the tender team: organising a kickoff, dividing scopes, monitoring interfaces and following up on the planning. This keeps internal and external partners aligned throughout the entire tender phase.
- Contact with clients, designers and construction partners gives you additional insight into the expectations behind the file. You carefully follow up on questions and clarifications and maintain professional communication.
- After award, you ensure a complete handover to the execution project manager. During execution, you regularly visit sites in the Mechelen region and remain involved in the realisation of the project you helped prepare.
- During the post-calculation, you analyse results and lessons learned. You translate these insights into better estimates, methods and collaboration on subsequent assignments, ensuring your work has an impact in the long term as well.
Profile
- A degree in industrial or civil engineering construction, or an equivalent technical qualification, forms the basis for this role.
- You bring approximately 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in buildings, civil engineering, infrastructure or a comparable project environment. This allows you to assess technical information quickly and make realistic choices.
- Accuracy and a sense of responsibility are important: quotes are based on correct analyses, clear documentation and a critical review of details, quantities and conditions.
- You communicate clearly with colleagues, management, clients, suppliers and subcontractors. This connecting approach helps you bring together different areas of expertise and get a tender team working in a focused manner.
- Complex files appeal to you. You think analytically and creatively about alternative execution methods, optimisations and opportunities, without losing sight of feasibility, timing and quality.

- A 40-hour week with 12 time-off-in-lieu days per year, supplemented by the collective construction holiday, three weeks of leave in July, two weeks of Christmas holiday and additional freely schedulable leave days.
- Flexible working hours give you room to organise your working day practically. After an induction period, structural home working is also possible, up to two days per week.
- You work from a fixed office environment in Mechelen, with regular site visits when the file requires it. The combination of calculation, consultation and reality checks keeps your work varied in content.
- You receive autonomy over your files, access to knowledge from specialised construction and infrastructure departments, and room to grow further as a cost expert, tender manager or technical project partner.
