Chief Accountant

Function

As a Senior Accountant / Chief Accountant, you will have overall responsibility for general accounting and finance-related projects at head office.

You combine a managerial role with a strong operational focus.

Specifically, this means:

• You will manage and coordinate the accounts department and lead a team of 10 colleagues.
• You coach, motivate and support your team, and allocate the various tasks.
• You will remain directly involved in the day-to-day running of the accounts and monitor the quality of the work.
• You will have overall responsibility for the accounts and ensure they are properly monitored.
• You will be responsible for the monthly and annual account closures.
• You will be responsible for preparing the monthly VAT returns and the weekly excise duty returns.
• You will be jointly responsible for preparing annual accounts and other accounting documents.
• You ensure that payments to suppliers are made correctly and on time.
• You will monitor outstanding supplier invoices on a monthly basis and take action where necessary.
• You will produce various reports and statistics, mainly in Excel.
• You will be responsible for preparing various tax and statutory returns.
• You will deal with accounting enquiries from clients and other relevant parties.
• You will be involved in finance-related projects and specific financial tasks.

Profile

For this role, we are looking for an experienced accountant who is not only strong with figures, but also thrives on mentoring and leading a team.

• You hold a bachelor’s degree in economics or finance.
• You have around five years’ experience as a senior accountant, chief accountant or in a similar role.
• You have experience of leading, coaching and motivating a team.
• You are a true people manager and know how to allocate responsibilities clearly.
• At the same time, you enjoy rolling up your sleeves and staying closely involved in the day-to-day running of the accounts.
• You work with precision and enjoy maintaining structure and a clear overview.
• You have a good knowledge of Excel and Word.
• Knowledge of SAP is an asset.
• You are flexible and able to switch easily between operational accounting, reporting and people management.
• You speak and write Dutch and French fluently.

Organisation

You will be joining a stable, international organisation with a regional head office in West Flanders. Within the finance department, you will be working alongside a team of 10 colleagues, each with their own specialism within accounting.

As Chief Accountant, you will assume overall responsibility and ensure that the various elements of the accounts are correctly reconciled. You will take on a wide-ranging role in which people management and operational accounting go hand in hand.
