Quality officer

Location: Turnhout, Antwerp, Belgium Specialisation: Engineering Salary: € 3.200 - € 4.300 gross / month Contracttype: Indefinite time Hours: 40 hrs/week Work ritme: Day

Function

As QA Officer Production & Administration, you ensure that quality and food safety are maintained across all production shifts. You combine operational quality monitoring on the shop floor with production and quality administration. In addition, you are the permanent back-up for both the Quality Manager and the production administration employee.

You work a shifted schedule, meaning you are also present at times when the Quality Manager is not on the shop floor. In this way, you contribute to continuous quality monitoring and smooth collaboration between Quality, Production and Administration.

Quality and food safety on the shop floor

  • You conduct quality rounds and monitor production closely, with particular attention to moments when the Quality Manager is not present.
  • You check, verify and record CCPs and PRPs to safeguard food safety.
  • You carry out process controls and spot checks on, amongst other things, weight, appearance, labelling, lot coding and best-before date.
  • You release production lines after cleaning, changeovers and allergen switches, in accordance with the applicable procedures.
  • You take product, environmental and swab samples in accordance with the established sampling plan.
  • You record deviations and non-conformities, place products on hold where necessary and initiate corrective actions.
  • You address production employees and guide them in complying with hygiene regulations, GMP, food defence and internal procedures.
  • You ensure a clear handover to the shift supervisors of the late and night shift, so that points of attention and outstanding actions are followed up correctly.

Production and quality administration

  • You create and manage labels and bills of materials (BOMs) together with the production administration employee. In doing so, you apply the four-eyes principle to ensure accuracy prior to release.
  • You check product specifications, product data and allergen information.
  • You review production and quality records and follow up on missing data.
  • You manage documents within the quality system, including HACCP documentation, traceability data and labelling information.
  • You assist with traceability tests and support internal and external audits, including those for IFS, Kosher, Halal, RSPO and Rainforest Alliance.
  • You carry out an initial analysis of complaints related to production. You collect relevant batch data, samples and records in preparation for further handling by the quality team.

Back-up and continuity

  • You are the permanent back-up for the Quality Manager and the production administration employee, helping to ensure continuity of quality operations and production administration.
  • In the absence of the Quality Manager, you take over the day-to-day operational quality monitoring. You monitor the quality agenda, follow up on sampling and verifications, and provide first-line support during unannounced audits and inspections, among other tasks. You also respond to standard client queries based on existing, approved documentation.
  • In the absence of the production administration employee, you take over the management of labels, BOMs and production information. You monitor production data in consultation with Production and Back Office and ensure that the necessary information is available in time for the early shift.
  • You make independent decisions within the agreed remit. In the event of critical deviations, potential food safety risks or matters requiring a definitive decision, you consult with the Quality Manager or, in their absence, the Managing Director.

Collaboration and improvement

  • You work closely with the Quality Manager, Production, Production Administration, Back Office and management.
  • You draw up work instructions, checklists and handover documents and keep these up to date.
  • You help raise awareness among new and existing employees regarding hygiene, GMP and allergen management.
  • You actively contribute ideas on improvements in quality, administration and production processes.
  • You are flexible in stepping in where needed and support the organisation with administrative or operational tasks.
  • You work a fixed, staggered day schedule that starts and ends later than the Quality Manager's schedule. The specific working hours are determined in consultation and aligned with production needs and the desired quality coverage. You ensure a proper handover between the various shifts.

Profile

  • You hold a bachelor's degree in food technology, biotechnology, quality assurance or equivalent experience.
  • You have experience in quality or production within the food industry. Experience in the chocolate or confectionery sector is an advantage.
  • You have a thorough knowledge of HACCP. Knowledge of IFS, BRCGS or other GFSI standards is a strong asset.
  • You have knowledge of food legislation, allergen management and food labelling.
  • You communicate fluently in Dutch and English, both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of French is a welcome bonus.
  • You work proficiently with MS Office, particularly Excel and Word. Experience with an ERP package is an advantage.
  • You are willing to work a staggered schedule and to cover colleagues in their absence.

Your personality

  • You work independently and are not afraid to make decisions within your remit.
  • You have sufficient self-confidence and a natural authority to address employees on the shop floor.
  • You work accurately and in a structured manner, and have an eye for detail.
  • You are analytical, solution-oriented and think critically.
  • You remain calm under pressure and can easily set priorities.
  • You communicate clearly and ensure a complete and accurate handover between the various shifts.
  • You are able to draw up and manage work instructions, procedures and questionnaires in Word and Excel.
  • You enjoy collaborating with various teams and departments.
  • You have a proactive attitude and continually strive for improvement.
