Mechanical Draughtsman

Location: Tienen, Flemish Brabant, Belgium Specialisation: Engineering Salary: € 2.400 - € 4.000 gross / month Contracttype: Indefinite time Hours: 40 hrs/week Work ritme: Day

Function

  • As a Mechanical Draughtsman, you translate tender plans into clear and technically correct 2D and 3D execution drawings for railings, staircases, walkways, cycle bridges and other steel structures.
  • Using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, you develop every design into production-ready drawings, with attention to dimensions, material choices, connections and assembly.
  • You take into account the capabilities of a modern machinery fleet, including advanced machining techniques, so that your drawings can be efficiently executed in the workshop.
  • After approval, you compile complete production files including workshop drawings, assembly plans and parts lists, ensuring that production and assembly teams have the right information to work to a high standard.
  • In consultation with project managers, the workshop, assembly teams and project leads, you align technical details and follow up on changes from design through to execution.
  • You safeguard the accuracy and completeness of your files, because correct drawings directly contribute to safe constructions, smooth production and reliable delivery.
  • Based in Tienen, you contribute to visible infrastructure projects at home and abroad, within a Belgian family business that delivers custom steel constructions for professional clients.

Profile

  • A technical qualification or equivalent experience provides a good foundation for this role. Experience as a Mechanical Draughtsman, CAD draughtsman or technical designer is welcome, but a first work experience of 0 to 3 years may also suffice.
  • You can work with technical drawing programmes; knowledge of Autodesk Inventor is an important asset. Experience with AutoCAD or comparable software is also relevant.
  • An interest in steel structures and an understanding of technical feasibility help you to develop designs that are not only correct, but also practically realisable.
  • Working accurately and in a structured manner is essential: you check details, track changes and deliver files that other departments can rely on.
  • You communicate clearly and enjoy working collaboratively, whilst also taking on tasks independently. That combination helps you to share information in a timely manner and to make calm adjustments when project details change.

Organisation

At this family-run business, everything revolves around steel, craftsmanship and reliability. Since 1971, they have been constructing metal railings, vehicle barrier structures and innovative, bespoke steel solutions across Europe. So, no run-of-the-mill work here, but projects where you can really see your mark. Think of high-profile projects such as the Bertem bridge, the cycle bridge in Terhills, or projects at Zaventem Airport.

With a team of around 60 colleagues, you’ll be working here in a no-nonsense atmosphere where open communication, respect and hard work go hand in hand. It’s a young and close-knit team, with a good balance between professionalism and a pleasant working atmosphere. And yes, an ice-cream van on hot days or a group barbecue before the building industry holiday are simply part of the package.

What makes this company particularly interesting:

  • A friendly, family-like and collegial atmosphere: you’ll be joining a warm and welcoming team where people work hard and have a laugh.
  • A congestion-free environment: a smooth journey to work, without the daily stress of being on the road.
  • Major, high-profile projects: play a part in projects that you’ll be able to point to later on.
  • Respect and flexibility: open communication, a fair approach and the freedom to take time off if your personal circumstances require it.
  • A great atmosphere outside of work: from team-building activities to going to Suikerrock together.

In this role, you will use Inventor and AutoCAD to design steel structures that are customised down to the last detail. Ideal for anyone who enjoys technically challenging work in an environment where dedication is genuinely valued.

Offer

  • A technically substantive role with responsibility for drawings and production files for a wide range of steel structures.
  • A full-time working week of 40 hours, generally from 8.30 to 17.00. For practical organisation, there is room for discussion within the role when your personal situation requires it.
  • A gross salary in line with your experience and technical knowledge, supplemented with meal vouchers of €6.50, eco-vouchers and double holiday pay.
  • A mobile phone with subscription, hospitalisation insurance, group insurance, end-of-year bonus and the possibility of an expense allowance.
  • An annual appraisal provides a fixed moment to discuss your development, responsibilities and salary package.
  • You will work in an open-plan office within a collegial, calm and respectful working environment. Collaboration and open communication are central.
  • An organisation with generations of experience in steel construction offers room to further develop your technical knowledge through projects, collaboration with experienced colleagues and growing responsibility.
  • Outside of work, there is a focus on connection, with informal activities such as a barbecue, team building and shared moments throughout the year.
