Technical draughtsman – steel structures
Function
As an architectural draughtsman, you’ll be involved in challenging steel projects such as handrails, staircases, walkways and cycle bridges.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Converting tender documents and technical designs into accurate 2D and 3D construction drawings for steel structures.
- Producing drawings that are not only technically accurate, but also perfectly suited to the production process and the available machinery.
- Compiling a complete production dossier following approval of the design, including workshop drawings, assembly plans and bills of materials.
- Careful attention to technical details, dimensions, connections and the choice of materials, so that everything is ready for a smooth implementation.
- Working smoothly with project managers, the workshop, the assembly team and project management, so that everyone can get to work with the same, accurate information.
- Working with Autodesk Inventor and other 3D design programmes to shape projects from start to finish.
Profile
We are looking for someone who:
- Technical and tender drawings are easily converted into clear 2D and 3D construction drawings for steel structures such as handrails, staircases, walkways and other bespoke projects.
- Is thoroughly proficient in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, whilst also keeping in mind what is actually feasible in production. A nice drawing? Great. A workable drawing? Even better.
- You have experience with technical drawing software; knowledge of Autodesk Inventor would be an advantage.
- Has a clear interest in steel structures.
Organisation
At this family-run business, everything revolves around steel, craftsmanship and reliability. Since 1971, they have been constructing metal railings, vehicle barrier structures and innovative, bespoke steel solutions across Europe. So, no run-of-the-mill work here, but projects where you can really see your mark. Think of high-profile projects such as the Bertem bridge, the cycle bridge in Terhills, or projects at Zaventem Airport.
With a team of around 60 colleagues, you’ll be working here in a no-nonsense atmosphere where open communication, respect and hard work go hand in hand. It’s a young and close-knit team, with a good balance between professionalism and a pleasant working atmosphere. And yes, an ice-cream van on hot days or a group barbecue before the building industry holiday are simply part of the package.
What makes this company particularly interesting:
- A friendly, family-like and collegial atmosphere: you’ll be joining a warm and welcoming team where people work hard and have a laugh.
- A congestion-free environment: a smooth journey to work, without the daily stress of being on the road.
- Major, high-profile projects: play a part in projects that you’ll be able to point to later on.
- Respect and flexibility: open communication, a fair approach and the freedom to take time off if your personal circumstances require it.
- A great atmosphere outside of work: from team-building activities to going to Suikerrock together.
In this role, you will use Inventor and AutoCAD to design steel structures that are customised down to the last detail. Ideal for anyone who enjoys technically challenging work in an environment where dedication is genuinely valued.
Offer
What can you expect?

- Additional benefits such as an end-of-year bonus, double holiday pay and, where applicable, an expenses allowance.
- A 40-hour working week with working hours from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.
- Flexibility where possible, particularly when family commitments are involved.
- A traffic-free working environment, allowing you to start your day calmly and without any extra stress.
- Fun extras throughout the year, such as a barbecue before the construction industry’s annual break, team-building events and an ice cream on hot days.
Here, you’ll not only have the chance to help build high-profile and technically sound projects, but you’ll also find an employer who values commitment and rewards it fairly. A place where your work is truly recognised, both on the shop floor and on your payslip.
