Manufacturing engineer
Function
The Manufacturing Engineer acts as the link between engineering, work planning, production planning and production. The role ensures that new and existing products can be manufactured as efficiently and reliably as possible.
This is a wide-ranging role with plenty of scope for taking the initiative. The exact nature of the role will be partly determined by the candidate’s knowledge, interests and ambitions.
1. Improving production processes
- Ensure that production orders are technically correct and run smoothly through the factory.
- Translating customer information, drawings and STEP files into clear production instructions.
- Contributing ideas on feasibility, efficiency, quality and lead times.
- Analysing existing processes and identifying areas for improvement.
- Working together with colleagues on the shop floor to actually implement improvements.
- Contributing ideas on new machinery, tooling and production methods.
2. Work planning
- Assisting with the preparation of production orders.
- Ensuring that the ERP system contains the correct data, such as routing, bills of materials and lead times.
- Providing support with cost estimates, outsourcing and capacity issues.
- Contributing ideas on planning, material flows and priorities.
- Ensuring a smooth transition between engineering and production.
3. NPI & new projects
- Effectively introduce new industrial products within the organisation.
- Translating designs into a feasible and efficient production process.
- Liaising with customers, engineering, production and quality.
- Monitoring quality, lead times and manufacturability.
- Initiating improvements where a process can be made smarter, faster or more accurate.
- Over time, take on increasing responsibility for coordinating NPI projects.
In addition, the organisation has ambitious plans in the areas of automation and digitalisation. Within the group, for example, work is underway on AI applications to link administrative processes and information flows more intelligently.
The Manufacturing Engineer will be given the opportunity to actively contribute ideas on these developments and to provide input on them.
Profile
For this role, it is not essential for a candidate to already have a full grasp of everything. The organisation considers it particularly important that a candidate is curious, has technical insight and enjoys making things better.
- You have a good technical understanding and an interest in metalworking/machining;
- You understand what happens on a CNC machine and on the shop floor;
- You like to keep track of things and bring structure;
- You’re not afraid to challenge existing processes;
- You are able to think for yourself and take the initiative;
- You can easily switch between the office and the shop floor;
- You enjoy working alongside colleagues from different disciplines;
- You want to learn and develop yourself further.
Experience is, of course, an advantage, but years of experience are not a requirement. An ambitious school leaver or someone with a few years’ experience in machining could also be well suited to the role.
Organisation
From outdated machinery to a modern, automated production environment. From existing mass production to specialist work and new projects. As a Manufacturing Engineer, the candidate will have the opportunity to help shape this from the very beginning.
The organisation is a family-run business that is constantly evolving. It manufactures high-quality, precision components for sectors including the medical and automotive industries. The machining department works with steel and aluminium, producing everything from single items and prototypes to larger batches.
The organisation is currently undergoing a significant transition. In the coming period, part of the volume production will be transferred to the production site in India. This will create more and more scope in Valkenswaard for specialist work, NPI projects and further process development.
That is why the organisation is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer who is keen to play a key role in this.
