Head of the Health, Safety and Environment Department

Location: Wingene, West Flanders, Belgium Specialisation: Engineering Salary: € 3.000 - € 4.500 bruto / month Contracttype: Job option fixed Hours: 40 hrs/week Work ritme: Day

Function

  • Developing, implementing and monitoring health, safety and environmental (HSE) policy.
  • Translating legislation and regulations into practical and workable procedures.
  • To proactively advise and support colleagues on health, safety and the environment.
  • Regularly visiting construction sites to identify risks and monitor improvement measures.
  • Coaching project and site managers on working safely and promoting safety awareness.
  • Organising and following up on risk assessments, toolbox meetings, audits and incident investigations.
  • Ensure that inspections of equipment and machinery are carried out correctly.
  • Reporting on HSE performance and initiating improvement measures.
  • Organising campaigns and training programmes on health and safety.
  • Managing, supervising and coaching the HSE team.
  • Working with senior management, internal departments, suppliers and external partners.

Profile

  • You have completed a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • You have at least 3 years’ experience in health, safety and the environment, preferably in a technical, industrial or construction-related setting.
  • You have experience on construction sites and feel at home in an operational environment.
  • You combine a strategic vision with a pragmatic, hands-on approach.
  • You are a strong communicator and know how to persuade and motivate people.
  • You work independently, take the initiative and are not afraid to make decisions.
  • You hold a Level II Prevention Adviser certificate and are willing to progress to Level I.
  • Knowledge of VCA is an advantage.
