Purchaser
Function
As a Construction Procurement Officer, you will be responsible for the timely, high-quality and cost-effective procurement of materials, services and subcontractors for a wide range of construction projects. Based in Hasselt or one of the other regional hubs, you will work closely with project managers, quantity surveyors, site planners and suppliers. You will have the opportunity to help build large-scale design-and-build projects across non-residential construction, apartment blocks and complex industrial projects.
Your duties will include:
- Analysing tender documents, plans, tender specifications and technical specifications.
- Requesting, comparing and negotiating quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Monitoring price, quality, delivery times, availability and contractual agreements.
- Selecting and assessing suitable partners for a wide range of construction and engineering works.
- Drawing up purchase comparisons, order forms and substantiated purchase proposals.
- Consult with project teams on planning, feasibility, alternative materials and potential optimisations.
- Monitoring orders, deliveries and any changes that may arise during the process.
- Maintaining long-term professional relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Contribute to cost control, risk analysis, sustainability and the reuse of materials wherever possible.
You will mainly be based in Hasselt, but depending on where you live and the projects, you may also work from Antwerp, Brussels or Ghent. As the projects are spread across the region, a certain degree of mobility to construction sites, suppliers and project locations is a given.
Profile
For this role, we are looking for an experienced procurement officer who is familiar with the complexity and scale of professional construction projects. You will combine commercial negotiation skills with sufficient technical knowledge to assess tenders accurately and evaluate the impact of procurement decisions on scheduling, quality and execution.
Ideally, you should bring the following with you:
- Relevant experience as a purchaser within a professional construction environment.
- Experience with medium- to large-scale construction projects; experience with Class 8 projects is a definite advantage.
- Knowledge of building materials, subcontractors, construction methods and standard procurement processes in the construction sector.
- Experience in analysing tender documents, technical dossiers and quotations.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to balance price, quality, scheduling and risk.
- A structured and meticulous approach to work, with a focus on follow-up and administrative accuracy.
- A good knowledge of Dutch; knowledge of French or English would be an advantage.
- Effective communication and the ability to work constructively with project teams, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Willingness to travel between Hasselt, the other hubs and relevant project sites.
- A professional, honest and solution-focused approach.
Experience gained exclusively in the private residential construction sector or in small-scale steel structures is generally less suited to the scale and complexity of this role. Candidates with a background at a larger construction firm or with experience in complex non-residential, infrastructure or industrial projects are well-placed.

- The opportunity to work on technically challenging projects with significant social and economic impact.
The organisation is in the process of transitioning to an electric vehicle fleet. The specific choice of vehicles and mobility solutions is therefore discussed in line with policy, availability and the requirements of the role.
