Purchase Officer
Function
As Purchase Officer you will help to ensure a smooth, accurate and well-thought-out purchasing process within a technical wholesale business with a strong logistics operation. From Izegem Over time, you will take charge of one or more product categories and ensure a good balance between commercial agreements, stock availability and administrative accuracy.
Your role is varied and combines operational oversight with more strategic input. You will develop relationships with existing suppliers, actively seek out new partners and, at the same time, oversee the day-to-day flow of purchasing, stock and after-sales. You’ll maintain an overview, take the initiative and quickly identify where processes can be organised more efficiently or effectively.
Your duties will include:
- Negotiating and monitoring purchasing terms with existing suppliers.
- Actively seek out new suppliers and opportunities, both in Belgium and abroad.
- Independently manage purchasing for a number of suppliers or product ranges.
- Monitor stock management for the main warehouse and the branches.
- Ensure that purchase orders are correctly tracked in the logistics process and identify any discrepancies in good time.
- Manage and update product, supplier and logistics data in the ERP system.
- Coordinate after-sales and returns, including warranty claims and returns of non-stock items.
- Contributing ideas on improvements to purchasing, stock management and administrative processes.
You will be joining a close-knit team where direct communication, responsibility and commitment are key. In this role, you will have the opportunity to influence the way the procurement process operates and to further develop your role as your experience and understanding grow.
Profile
For this role, we are looking for a meticulous and independent professional with some initial experience in technical procurement. Ideally, you will have a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, and you feel at home in an environment where administration, consultation and follow-up go hand in hand.
You recognise yourself in someone who works analytically, thinks on their feet and remains organised under pressure. You combine a commercial mindset with an eye for efficiency and thorough follow-up. You are also a confident communicator and are not afraid to take the initiative when a situation calls for action.
What we expect from you:
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in procurement.
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
- Strong knowledge of Excel and a natural way with Office applications.
- A quick guide to a ERP system or a willingness to get to grips with it quickly.
- Analytical insight and a solution-oriented approach.
- Good communication skills, both internally and externally.
- A proactive attitude and a sense of responsibility.
- Organisation, precision and a strong commitment to follow-through.
- Experience in stock management, supplier liaison or after-sales service is an asset.
You enjoy working with data and processes, but you never lose sight of the practical realities. You feel at ease in a role where you make decisions independently, liaise with various parties and help to build an efficient organisation.
