Function

As Calculator – Year 8 You’ll play a key role in the preparation of challenging infrastructure projects. Drawing on your technical expertise and analytical skills, you’ll translate plans and documentation into a well-founded cost estimate and a competitive tender. You’ll contribute ideas on feasibility, optimisation and smart solutions even before implementation begins.

• You analyse specifications, plans and technical documents in detail.
• You calculate the cost of infrastructure works and monitor the feasibility of projects.
• You request quotations from suppliers and subcontractors and compare the various price components.
• You identify areas for optimisation, alternatives and opportunities, taking into account return on investment and feasibility.
• You will work closely with project managers, work planners and technical colleagues to put together a strong tender.
• You monitor market prices, materials and construction methods to ensure your cost estimates remain up to date and accurate.
• You will contribute to the further professionalisation of the costing and preparation phase within the organisation.

You’ll be working in an environment where public works and industrial projects come together, with the opportunity to help build projects that have a visible impact. The role also offers the flexibility to work from multiple sites, with Harelbeke as the main venue.

Profile

For this role, we are looking for a quantity surveyor with strong technical insight, a meticulous approach to work and a keen interest in figures and project preparation. Ideally, you will have 3 to 5 years’ experience in cost estimation, civil engineering or a similar technical role. Candidates with the right background and a strong willingness to learn are also welcome to apply.

• You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering, or have equivalent experience.
• You have an analytical mind and are able to interpret plans, files and technical information accurately.
• You work accurately, structured and have an eye for detail.
• You are skilled at estimating costs, quantities and implementation risks.
• You are a good communicator and enjoy working with various internal and external parties.
• Experience in cost estimation is an advantage, but not an absolute requirement.
• You take the initiative, think in terms of solutions and keep a clear overview, even when deadlines are approaching.
• Knowledge of infrastructure works, public works or industrial projects is an asset.
