Experienced Automation Engineer in Mechanical Engineering

Function

As an experienced Mechanical Engineering Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for the PLC control and SCADA programming of new machines and systems. You will take ownership of the automation aspect and oversee it from a technical perspective, from engineering and programming through to testing and final installation at the customer’s site.

Specifically, as an experienced Mechanical Engineering Automation Engineer, you will:

• Responsible for PLC programming and machine control of new high-tech machines and systems.
• Programming and configuring SCADA and visualisation systems.
• Coordinate the automation schedule with the Project Manager and ensure that the various project deadlines are met.
• Drawing up, amending and further developing functional specifications for machinery.
• Carry out functional testing of the automation software and perform the final technical inspection before the machines are dispatched.
• To provide support during the installation and commissioning of machinery at international customers’ sites.
• To assist with upgrades, optimisations and service interventions on existing machines.
• Select PLC, network and automation components in consultation with the Electrical Engineer and Project Manager.
• Interpreting and using electrical diagrams in the development and troubleshooting of machine control systems.
• Analysing technical problems and arriving at a suitable solution independently.
• Work closely with colleagues from departments including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Project Management.
• Regular international travel for projects, interventions and client support, accounting for up to approximately 30% of your working time.

Profile

For this role as an experienced Mechanical Engineering Automation Engineer, we are looking for an experienced automation specialist who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to work independently and a hands-on approach. You have extensive experience with PLC-controlled machines and feel at home in a complex mechanical engineering environment.

As an experienced Mechanical Engineering Automation Engineer, you will recognise yourself in the following:

• You hold a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation or a comparable technical qualification with a strong focus on electricity and automation.
• You have at least 10 years’ relevant experience as an Automation Engineer within a mechanical engineering environment.
• You have extensive knowledge of PLC programming and machine control.
• You have a very good knowledge of Siemens, including TIA Portal and Step7.
• In addition, you have experience with at least one other PLC platform, such as Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff or Schneider.
• You have experience with SCADA and process visualisation systems such as WinCC, Wonderware and/or iFIX.
• You can read and interpret electrical diagrams with ease.
• You have knowledge of servo-motion technology.
• An interest in IT and programming languages such as .NET, C++, C# and SQL is an advantage.
• You can set priorities and organise your work independently, whilst keeping team collaboration in mind.
• You are hands-on, solution-oriented and technically strong.
• You have a customer-focused approach.
• You also speak and write English fluently due to the international projects and clients.
• You are willing to travel internationally for up to approximately 30% of your working time.
