Automation Engineer/Maintenance Technician

Function

As an Automation Engineer/Maintenance Technician, you will be working in a high-tech production environment in the Roeselare region, where you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of one department within the machinery park. You will be the primary technical point of contact for this installation and will combine analytical insight with a hands-on approach to resolve faults quickly and effectively.

In this role, you will be working in daily routine and you’ll be given a great deal of autonomy, whilst receiving the right technical support whenever needed. You’ll be working in a modern, highly automated environment where minimising downtime is key, and where you’ll switch daily between interventions, fine-tuning, preventative maintenance and technical follow-up.

Your duties and responsibilities:

• Identifying, analysing and resolving electrical and mechanical faults in modern production machinery.
• Carry out technical interventions to minimise downtime and ensure the continuity of the production process.
• Setting up, adjusting and fine-tuning machinery within your assigned department.
• Reading, interpreting and applying electrical diagrams and technical drawings.
• Experience of working with and an understanding of PLC systems, variable-speed drives, servo control, and network and bus systems.
• Detecting and rectifying faults in AC/DC motors, sensors, safety relays and related components.
• Also recognise and help resolve hydraulic and pneumatic faults.
• Monitoring daily tasks, such as lubrication schedules, visual inspections and preparing for scheduled maintenance work.
• Keep technical documentation up to date and report findings clearly to the person responsible for technical matters.
• After your induction period, you should have a thorough understanding of how the systems work, how to operate them and how to calibrate them.

Profile

For this role, we are looking for a technically strong candidate who, ideally, already has some initial experience within a manufacturing company and a strong interest in industrial automation and fault-finding. You don’t need to know everything perfectly yet, but you do need to have a sufficient grounding to be able to work independently and effectively in a complex manufacturing environment.

Your profile:

• A bachelor’s degree level of understanding in electromechanics, electrical engineering or an equivalent technical background gained through experience.
• Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is a definite asset.
• Good knowledge of PLC systems: the ability to understand, recognise and logically analyse PLC structures.
• In-depth knowledge of electrical and mechanical faults, with an understanding of cause and effect.
• Knowledge of AC/DC motors, sensors, frequency converters, network and bus systems, and technical components such as diodes and capacitors.
• Able to read and interpret electrical diagrams and technical drawings with ease.
• Basic knowledge of or experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
• You work in a structured and organised manner, paying close attention to safety and quality.
• You are able to set priorities and remain calm when faced with urgent problems or unexpected breakdowns.
• You can work independently as well as collaborate effectively with colleagues and external technical partners.
• A good knowledge of Dutch and/or English.
• Willing to work day shifts.
