Technical Draughtsman – Steel Construction

Function

As a Steel Construction Technical Draughtsman, you will be part of the project team and will translate technical designs into detailed and workable 3D models and drawings. In doing so, you will take into account not only the design, but also production, transport and assembly.

• You will model complex steel structures in 3D using Tekla.
• You will draw up detailed workshop drawings and production lists.
• You prepare orders for materials based on the technical drawings.
• When drawing up the plans, you must take into account the chosen method of transport and installation.
• You will contribute ideas on the practical feasibility of steel structures.
• Among other things, you will monitor the accessibility of connections, technical reliability and appropriate welding details.
• You check models and drawings for accuracy and quality.
• When drafting work is outsourced, you monitor the progress and quality of external drafting partners.
• You will liaise regularly with project management, engineering, production and other relevant colleagues.
• As a Steel Construction Technical Draughtsman, you will help to ensure the smooth preparation and execution of large-scale steel construction projects.

Profile

For this role as a Technical Draughtsman in Steel Construction, we are looking for someone with a strong technical background and an interest in steel structures. Experience with 3D drafting software and a meticulous approach to work are key assets.

• You have completed a technical degree, for example in Electromechanics, Mechanics, Industrial Sciences, Design and Production Technology or a similar field.
• You have at least 5 years’ relevant work experience
• You have a keen interest in steel construction, metal structures and technical projects.
• Experience with Tekla is a major asset.
• You have experience of, or a flair for, working with 3D drawing and modelling software.
• You have a good technical understanding and a good sense of spatial awareness.
• You work with precision and have a keen eye for technical details.
• You are analytical and solution-oriented.
• You communicate easily with colleagues within a multidisciplinary project team.
• You enjoy working as part of a team, but are also able to organise and oversee your own drawing work independently.
• Proficiency in Dutch is essential for this role as a Steel Construction Technical Draughtsman.

Organisation

You will be joining an established Belgian company specialising in complex steel construction and large-scale infrastructure projects. From its base in the Ghent region, the company designs, prepares and builds impressive steel structures for projects both at home and abroad.

The organisation combines engineering, technical preparation, production and project delivery. The projects include, amongst other things, large steel structures and infrastructure applications where bespoke solutions, technical complexity and high-quality standards are key. As a result, you won’t be doing repetitive drafting work, but working on structures that differ in both technical and project-specific terms each time.

You will be working as part of an experienced technical team and will have the opportunity to help build projects that, once completed, will literally remain visible.
