Embedded Software Developer - Linux

Work with customers to design, implement and debug software for embedded systems.

Projects usually include some of the following:

• Porting Linux to new platforms based on typical embedded processors (ARM, MIPS, x86, etc...).
• Configuring network protocol stacks, optimising data throughput, securing access, etc.
• Setting up multimedia frameworks, optimising audio/video performance, etc..
• Debugging complex real-time problems, implementing remote upgrade mechanisms, etc..
• Making system-level architecture studies (SW architecture definition, choice of OS, HW/SW trade-offs, etc...).

Our client offers consultancy and services in the field of Linux, Android and Open Source software for Embedded Systems. The head office is located in Leuven, but the projects are spread over Flanders. They are an important player in the market that is specialised in: low-level software development (board bring-up, BSPs, device drivers, boot loaders, etc...), Networking (TCP/IP USB, Bluetooth, wireless protocols, etc...), Multimedia (Audio/Video streaming, GStreamer, VLC, etc...) and Security (authentication, certification, etc...).

Depending on your knowledge and experience, the job requirements include:

• Experience in C software development. Experience in C++ is a plus.
• Theoretical understanding of the Linux kernel, compilation and debugging techniques and associated toolchains. Experience working in a Linux command-line environment.
• Experience with running SW or Linux on embedded processors is a plus.
• Experience with other embedded operating systems (Android, RTEMS, eCos, pSOS, VxWorks, ...) is a plus.
• Experience in device drivers, networking stacks or multimedia frameworks is also a plus.
• Good knowledge of English. Knowledge of Dutch or French is a bonus.
• Other important elements besides pure technical experience are a passion for Open Source Software, willingness to learn, being open and flexible, being a team player and being service-minded towards customers.
